Mahipat Babruvahan, MA (so what if passed in third class), desires to be a professor to uplift his status and gain respect. After all he is the first one from his caste to become a post graduate. Now he just needs a job to prove to all those who looked down upon him or ridiculed him.

Vijay Tendulkar has brought the problem of Unemployment & caste system, to the fore in a humorous way. And kudos to Subhash Gupta for bringing that  humour on stage and a special applaud to the actors for keeping the homour alive for nearly two and a half hours.

Eeshwar bhai preaching Mahipat

Mahipat approaches Eeshwar bhai for a raise as he has become a post graduate but he is shown doors. Mahipat then gets a call letter for an interview and he is so excited that he treats Eeshwar with a cup of tea. With great expectations he reaches the village and finds the shitty state of the college. Sarpanch is the Chairman of the college committee and Lulu Baba - the principal of college, is also having no say. Mahipat gets the job as there is no other applicant.

good use of stage..., Mahipat seen bribing

#Niteesh Pandey, playing Mahipat, establishes the character with ease. The audience travels with his emotional highs & lows, thanks to Niteesh's acting skills. Sanjay #Ratha also stands out as Eeshwar. He seems to have followed Subhash's instructions to the core and many a times was even sounding like Subhash himself. His shaving scene though was very unreal and looked shabby. Eeshwar babu trying to scribble on blank pages of the register was sad as the blank pages were visible to the audience.

In the village scene Rajeev as chairman was amazing. This is called perfect casting. "thari maiyyon ki..." generated huge laughter.. Yogesh as principal made a good debut.

College committee decides for Mahipat

Mahipat gets the job and now faces a bigger challenge. Managing the over grown students who were lead by Babna, Sarpanch's son. Mahipat leaves his English style of teaching and speaks to students in their village language with full usage of cuss words and he wins the battle. Then a new challenge comes in the form of Ms Nalini (niece of the chairman) who is made his understudy. Slowly they fall in love with each other. How their love story ends because of the social pressures on Nalini is depicted very effectively. How a girl becomes a symbol of "khandaan ki izzat" and kills her emotions, is depicted in a humorous way yet the pain is felt.

Ved Upadhyaya as Babna was over dramatic initially but slowly got hold of the character. Shubhangi as Ms Nalini had a very pivotal role and she did showed sparks of brilliance but she could have done it much better. In the group of students and villagers, Anshu Shekhar molded himself well. Nikhil Madhekar as Laundry wala was impressive.

Putna mausi guarding Ms Nalini

What came as a surprise was Pootna Mausi who was assigned the job of keeping Nalini away from Mahipat. Upasana was brilliant as Pootna mausi. She brought in the freshness at a time when play was facing a low patch.

All in all JHPSK was a great attempt and a true homage to Vijay Tendulkar. Mr SM Zaheer who had been playing Mahipat (for nearly 25 years) had also graced the occasion on special invitation by Mr Subhash Gupta who had been playing Babna. Mr Kanaujia also came in as a special invitee from Delhi, who has been playing various roles

All in all it was a Subhash Gupta's show and a showcase for Niteesh Pandey who will be known as Mahipat Babruvaahan henceforth.  This effort deserves a great round of applause.

Something about the reviewer: #Capt Ahmed is a branding professional. He is actively involved in Theater & Films as an actor. Poetry & street plays, come naturally to him.
